Ten Countries Where You Should Watch Your Food Etiquette

When dining abroad or even in a local cultural restaurant, it's a good idea to have some knowledge of the customs and dining etiquette. That way you won't get caught out as being rude.

According to Venere, there are certain customs you should be aware of when dining in select countries.

Japan: Slurping your food is considered polite and is generally appreciated!

Middle East: Cutlery is rarely used and only the right hand should be used to eat.

China: It's an honour to be presented a fish eye by your host.

Spain: Toasts should never be held using a glass of water.

France: Splitting the bill is considered rude.

Mexico: Using cutlery is considered pretentious.

Italy: Asking for more cheese is considered an insult to the dish.

Thailand: Food should only enter your mouth via a spoon – never a fork.

Russia: Refusing a shot of vodka is considered impolite.

Chile: It's rude to let food come into contact with your hands.
