Easy Marinating Ideas for Flavoursome Meals

Marinades are an easy way to create flavoursome meals without all the hassle – simply combine a few ingredients in a zip-lock bag, add your meat and then relax for a while over a cup of tea. It's that easy!

According to the Miami Herald, basic marinades can be made with just a few ingredients. Here are a couple of ideas to get you started:

Citrus marinades

Citrus marinades are quite acidic so can tenderise food quickly. Seafood should be added just 30 minutes prior to cooking but chicken and beef can handle marinating times of up to two hours.

Chipotle & Lime – perfect on steak or shrimp.

Orange & Cumin – lovely with haddock or chicken breasts.

Lemon & Herb – great on salmon or chicken thighs.

Vinaigrette marinades

To stop the flavours becoming overpowering, vinegar should be tempered with oil. Chicken, beef and pork can handle marinating times of up to eight hours, but seafood and vegetables should be kept under two hours.

Garlic & Balsamic – compliments pork loins perfectly.

Spicy Hoisin – ideal with chicken tenders or scallops.

Maple & Soy – delicious with pork tenderloins or cod.
